RESOLUTION TO OPPOSE CHANGES OF TAXATION OF ROYALTIES

ON BENTONITE MINE PROCEEDS IN MONTANA

 

It is the intent of the Montana Association of Counties to oppose any effort of special interest groups to change the taxation of royalties on bentonite mine proceeds in Montana as they are currently being computed by the Department of Revenue.

 
 

 

 

 

 

 


WHEREAS, the Legislative Tax Reform Committee has directed the Department of Revenue to compute royalties at 15%, as opposed to the current 100% basis; and

 

WHEREAS, the Montana counties of Carter and Carbon recognize this computation as state law per 15-23-505, M.C.A; and

 

WHEREAS, Carter and Carbon counties are comfortable with the current taxation of bentonite mine royalty taxes.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Montana Association of Counties support Carter and Carbon Counties in the opposition to changing the royalty taxation of bentonite mine proceeds in Montana.
